School Closure Letter

School Closure Letter

Below you find Mr. Gatlin's letter addressing how HSM will proceed with the school closure as of Friday, March 13, 2020.

Dear HSM Family,

I spoke with our faculty this morning and told them that extraordinary times call for extraordinary measures.  For several weeks, Holy Savior Menard’s leaders have been meeting to discuss the coronavirus and ways to continue our education process.  This situation is constantly changing, and we assure you that we are monitoring this very closely.

There are NO suspected or confirmed cases at HSM.  We know the number of cases in Louisiana continues to rise but most of the cases are in the New Orleans area.  Our primary concern has always been the health and safety of our students and educators.  The HSM leadership team has made several decisions that will go into effect immediately.

E-Learning Begins Wednesday March 18

HSM has suspended all in person classes as of 3 pm today.  We will begin e-learning on Wednesday, March 18 through our Microsoft Office account.  Each student has an email account for this site.

We met with all our students today to ensure they had log in information to the sites they would need.

Starting on March 18 will give our teachers a couple of days to get assignments ready to go and loaded into the Microsoft platform.  Being a college prep school, our faculty is excited to offer this method of learning that will benefit our students for many years.  We are following the lead of many of our state universities with online courses.  We know this is not ideal but the education of our HSM students is a top priority as time is a precious commodity that cannot be regained.  Our teachers and staff will continue to be available to you and your child during this process.

If your child has issues logging in, we have assigned one person per grade level as a point of contact. We will be sharing videos on how to use the Microsoft platform and providing instructions on how to log into the Teams app.

Activities and Events

All activities and events are postponed until further notice.  We know many of these events are time sensitive.  We acknowledge these occasions are great celebrations of all that is good at Holy Savior Menard. Please know we working to find dates to fit as many of these events into our calendar as possible.  I will be meeting with our faculty sponsors early next week and will keep you updated with any new information.

Currently Baccalaureate and Graduation remain scheduled for May 10th and May 12th.
