7th - 12th Grade

Retreats

Class Retreats

Every year, students in each grade level are given the opportunity to experience a one-day class retreat. Traditionally, these retreats are held at the Maryhill Renewal Center in Pineville, LA and are hosted by the Menard Apostles for Christ (MAC Team).

HSM retreats are not only a chance for students to get out of the usual classroom environment but also a day to focus on their faith in fun and engaging ways. Through various activities, events and speakers, students are given the opportunity to encounter Christ together in a new way.

Retreat attendance is not optional. A Religion grade is assigned to students in grades 7th-11th for participation in class retreats.

Students attend two retreats during their senior year, one in the Fall and one in the Spring. Attendance and participation in both senior retreats is a graduation requirement for students in 12th grade.

Each January, the MAC Team and HSM Campus Ministry department host a one-day retreat for the eighth graders from every school in the Diocese of Alexandria.

The Diocesan 8th Grade Retreat is also held at the Maryhill Renewal Center and serves as a wonderful way for the students of our Diocese to meet and grow together through the activities of the day, with the focus always on Jesus.

Menard Apostles for Christ

The Menard Apostles for Christ (MAC Team) is a retreat and peer ministry team comprised of HSM seniors that have dedicated their final year at HSM to the task of promoting the Christian Faith and leading their peers to Christ through the events and activities of Campus Ministry, as well as their own personal example.

Members of the MAC Team serve HSM as assistant peer ministers and are responsible for the organization of the weekly schoolwide Mass, annual class retreats, and various other events held throughout the year.

MAC Team is optional and serves as the student's senior Religion class. Applications for the ministry team are submitted during the Spring semester of a student's junior year at HSM. The application and interview process is completed and positions on the team are finalized by May for members of the team for the following year.
It is an honor and a privilege to serve as a member of the Menard Apostles for Christ. Team members spend much of their senior year growing in their faith, as individuals and as a team. Time is regularly spent in individual and team prayer, Eucharistic Adoration, spiritual advising, and other forms of spiritual formation.
The MAC Team motto is "He must increase; I must decrease." - John 3:30
